The Louisville School of Painting was started by Seth Fite, to teach traditional drawing and painting in the Louisville area to both youth and adults. The school teaches traditional techniques and is influenced by the Kitsch philosophy. Class sizes remain small to increase individual learning. The school will offer courses for advanced students as well as beginners, all classes are focused on observation and inspiration from nature.

Instructor Seth Fite teaches drawing from observation, techniques with water-based media, and classical oil painting based on the techniques of the Old Masters and the Munich School. Fite has been teaching for 6 years, previously teaching private courses in Savannah, GA.

Youth Courses:

Advanced students will learn to achieve accurate proportion, value, perspective, color as well as creating compelling compositions and narrative. Students will learn from the techniques of the Old Masters, and Eastern painting.

Adult Open Studio Sessions:

Instructor Seth Fite will lead the class in multiple techniques of drawing and water-media, and will demonstrate methods of observation. The sessions will include both still life and live figure drawing. Critique will be given if asked, but mainly, Fite will lead the class by giving demonstrations, creating a relaxed atmosphere, and encouraging participation in his philosophy of drawing and painting. Every task will involve direct observation of nature. Fite will give demonstrations using graphite, pen and ink, and watercolor.

Adult Beginner’s Oil Painting Course:

Introduction to oil painting will review traditional materials and supplies, basic function of materials and their history. The first two classes will then consist of demonstrations by the instructor, and the painting process from blocking in to completion. Students will complete a still life painting and a plaster cast painting.
